Land Rover & Jaguar Head Units: Which One Is In Your Car?

Land Rover and Jaguar are useful retrofit platforms for one reason: the vehicles stay on the road for a long time, and the factory infotainment is the part that shows its age first. The complication is that several different head units were fitted across the two brands during the same period, and they are not interchangeable from a retrofit point of view.

Three groups, distinguished by screen size and audio brand

Bose-era vehicles — the earlier configuration, fitted across a range of models. Smaller display, and the audio system carries Bose branding.
Harman 8-inch — the mid configuration, with a larger display and Harman-branded audio. This is the most common retrofit target because it covers a very large number of vehicles.
Harman 10.25-inch widescreen — the later configuration. The screen is visibly wider in aspect and the bezel around it is thinner. Even though it sits in a similar model year window to the 8-inch unit, it needs a different module.

Because the 8-inch and 10.25-inch units overlap in years, screen size is the only reliable discriminator. Measure it or photograph it — do not infer from the registration year.

Where the retrofit lands

Land Rover and Jaguar owners usually come to this looking for two things specifically: navigation that is not years out of date, and proper phone integration without a windscreen-mounted phone holder. A decoder module delivers both while keeping the factory screen, the rotary gear selector area's infotainment controls, the steering-wheel buttons and the factory reversing camera.
