How to Identify Your Head Unit

The decoder you need depends on the head-unit platform, not just the badge. Quick identification tips:

  • BMW: CIC has a round iDrive knob with menu buttons and a 4:3-ish interface; NBT adds the touch-capable knob and connectedDrive menu; EVO (ID5/ID6) shows tile-style menus.
  • Mercedes-Benz: NTG4.0/4.5 uses the COMAND knob with a flip-up or fixed screen; HU6 is the MBUX-era widescreen.
  • Audi: MMI 2G/3G has the pop-up screen and four-corner menu keys; MIB cars have the newer MMI touch or MIB3 tile interface.
  • Porsche: CDR 3.0 is the basic radio; PCM 3.1 has nav with the older UI; PCM 4.0/5.0 uses the wide touchscreen.
  • Still not sure? Photo your head unit and VIN, send via WhatsApp — we confirm the exact module within 12 hours.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find my head unit generation?

Look at your factory screen: on BMW the iDrive menu style and the map version identify CIC, NBT or NBT EVO; on Mercedes the navigation version identifies NTG 4.0 to NTG 6; on Audi it is MMI 3G, MIB or MIB2; on Porsche it is PCM 3.1 or PCM 4.0. If you are unsure, send us a photo of the screen and the last 7 digits of your VIN.

My car is not in the fitment list — can you still help?

Often yes. Our list covers the models we have shipped, but the underlying requirement is the head unit generation rather than the badge. Send us your VIN and a photo of the screen and we will tell you within 12 hours whether a module exists or whether we can develop one.

Will wireless CarPlay work reliably in my car?

Yes, provided the module is matched to the head unit. Wireless CarPlay uses a 5 GHz Wi-Fi link between the phone and the module plus Bluetooth for the initial handshake, so keep the module's antennas clear of metal when installing and avoid routing them alongside the factory wiring harness.

Does the retrofit support the factory reverse camera and 360 view?

It does. Factory and aftermarket rear-view cameras both pass through the module, and on vehicles with a factory 360-degree system the original camera views keep working. Front and rear aftermarket camera inputs are also supported on most modules.
